Technology and collaboration for social good
I have a passion for creating technology and building collaborative efforts for social change and bettering people's lives. Thus far, I have experience in renewable energy as well as software development for medical applications. I am also a member of IEEE, Young Environmental Professionals (YEP), the International Network of Socio-Eco Entrepreneurs (INSE) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB). |
Promoting women in science and engineering
I am also passionate about promoting and supporting women in science and engineering through WISE and IEEE WIE. More details can be found in my Volunteerism section. |
Blogging
I enjoy writing and sharing what I learn. I've written articles for various newsletters but I mainly post to the CU-WISE blog. I also contributed to the GHC blog and GHC wiki. For example, I wrote about entrepreneurship, how volunteering has benefited me and how the GHC conference changed my life. I am also looking to contribute to the Worldchanging blog. |
Travelling
I like to learn about other cultures, taste different food and see amazing landscapes. I've been backpacking to Europe for 2 months as well as camping to the east and west coast of Canada. I've visited New York, Vermont, Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Hawaii, etc. I've also been to Montreal many times and have written a document that may be of interest to those fairly new to the city. |
Values and goals
My goals are to take care of my family, make a difference in my community and inspire others. I value:
collaboration: "If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."
integrity: "Concern for man himself and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors... Never forget this amidst all your diagrams and equations."
dedication: "Success is the ability to go from one failure to another without loss of enthusiasm."

Patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving
I am continually learning about myself. One recent test I found interesting was the Strong Life Test For Women. I would like to share it with you. The test measures you on nine life roles—adviser, caretaker, creator, equalizer, influencer, motivator, pioneer, teacher and weaver. My results showed that my lead role is a "creator". I begin by asking "what do I understand?" in order to first evaluate my own insight and understanding. I have an ability to find patterns invisible to others but I can think for too long resulting in never doing anything. My smartest career move is to produce new content. My supporting role is an "equalizer". I begin by asking "what's the right thing to do?" and think about how everything in the world is connected. I have an innate sense for what is right but I can get defensive when my values are challenged. My smartest career move is to speak up for people who have been wronged.
