Carleton University Women in Science and Engineering (CU-WISE)
CU-WISE is a student branch of Ottawa WISE dedicated to providing members with a support network, role models, and outreach opportunities to promote growth in their field. I am co-founder and former external affairs executive (biography). I also write on the CU-WISE blog. For example, I wrote about WISE on two blog posts (here and here). |
IEEE Teacher In-Service Program (TISP)
TISP aims to increase the level of technological literacy in local schools by training pre-university teachers in hands-on activities. I also attended the 2009 training workshop. |
The Canadian Slovak League (CSL)
I am part of CSL's Ottawa section special events and youth activities committee (co-chair from 2010-2012) and I moderate the Facebook group. I was also interviewed at a Slovak Spectrum television program. Check out our website. |
IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE)
IEEE WIE promotes women engineers and scientists. I planned joint events with the WIE Carleton and Ottawa chapters. For example, I spoke at a WIE/WISE/WIL book club on negotiation skills based on the famous book "Women Don't Ask". |
Women's Worlds 2011
The next Women's Wolds is in 2011 in Ottawa! This event is a chance to get women together from all over the world and tackle a wide range of issues as they relate to women, including violence against women, health, education, poverty, employment, political representation, etc. Call for participation is in Jan. 2010, registration is in fall of 2010, and you can help support the participation of people from under-resourced/represented communities through the Solidarity Fund. |
The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing 2009 (GHC)
GHC 09 is part of a series of conferences designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. I was a speaker as well as a blogger and note-taker. I wrote a blog post about how the previous year's conference changed my life. |
The National Conference on Women in Engineering 2008
An annual conference for university students, faculty and members of the engineering community from across Canada. I presented a session on how to build a science/engineering/technology support group. The feedback from this session inspired the creation of the Canadian WISE groups Wiki. |
McMaster's WISE 2009 International Women's Day Conference
This conference offers professional development workshops and showcases research by students and faculty in science and engineering. I participated at a round table discussion with WISE representatives from across Canada to network, discuss issues and share advice. |
Go ENG Girl
The Go ENG Girl program occurs all across Canada and is aimed to teach girls in grade 7-10 about engineering. I led hands-on activities at Carleton University and participated in exhibits. I also inspired a video. |
Enrichment Mini-Course Program
I helped at the Carleton enrichment mini-course program on "Computer Science and Games: Just for Girls!". Gail, the teacher who created the course, is very inspirational and I hope other Carleton students will create courses of their own. |
Virtual Ventures
I gave a presentation at Carleton University to a group of girls enrolled in the Virtual Ventures summer camp program. |
Design Tomorrow's World
I led an electromagnetism activity for young girls in grades 8-11 through the Design Tomorrow's World program organized by Pathmakers. The event is held on or near the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. |
